Inside the jar: a day with S&R, and what "natural" really means

S&R Beauty body scrub with aloe vera and lime

In shortMore than 90% of the ingredients in S&R products are natural and plant-based: basil, lemon, peppermint, honey, coconut, argan, jojoba, rosemary, tea tree, aloe vera, shea butter, oat, licorice, almond oil and natural Egyptian loofah, with vitamin E through most of the range. Everything is made in licensed, ISO-certified facilities and registered with the Ministry of Health.

"Natural" is printed on almost every bottle in every pharmacy, and it rarely tells you anything. So instead of a definition, let us show you.

Spend an ordinary day with us, from the first splash of water in the morning to wash day at the end of the week, and we will open every jar along the way: which plants are inside, what each one is there to do, and how to get the most from it.

Morning, at the sink

Morning: the cleanser, then the sunscreen.

The face cleanser: basil, lemon and peppermint

  • Basil

This is the bottle it all started with, and it is still the one we would hand you first. Basil is fresh and clarifying; lemon and peppermint bring the wake-up. Together they deep-clean the pores, lift away impurities and dead cells, help with blackheads, and help even out the skin tone.

How to use it: massage into damp skin in slow, gentle circles, then rinse with lukewarm water. What stays behind is not tightness but a clean, awake feeling. Face cleanser, 180 ml.

The sunscreen: almond oil, aloe vera and niacinamide

  • Aloe vera

The step that protects everything else. Our SPF 50 gel gives broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB, absorbs quickly with no white cast, and is water resistant. The plants are what make it feel like care rather than a chore: almond oil and aloe vera keep skin moisturised and soothed, and niacinamide helps it glow.

How to use it: a generous, even layer about fifteen minutes before you go out, and again every two hours. There is more in Sunscreen you will actually wear.

In the shower

The loofah: a plant, all of it

Our loofah is the most natural thing we sell, because it is simply a plant: Luffa aegyptiaca, the dried fruit of the luffa vine, cut by hand into hearts, ovals, rounds and quarter cobs. Nothing is added. It softens the moment it meets water, clears away dead skin, wakes up circulation and leaves the skin noticeably smoother.

How to use it: massage it over wet, lathered skin in circles. Afterwards, rinse out the lather and hang it up to dry, which keeps it fresh and helps it last for months.

The soap: glycerin and natural oils

Our glycerin soaps clean without stripping, and they are rich in natural oils, so skin feels soft rather than squeaky. Pick your mood: basil, rose, lavender, lemon, aqua, or coal with a cool touch of menthol.

The scrub: shea butter, oat, white lupine and licorice

  • Shea butter
  • Oat and licorice
  • Vitamin E

Once or twice a week, the body scrub. It polishes and feeds at the same time: the exfoliation reveals smoother skin while shea butter, vitamin E and natural oils keep it velvety after rinsing, never tight. Oat and white lupine soothe rough patches, and licorice helps brighten the skin tone.

After the shower

The lotion: basil and honey

  • Basil
  • Honey

Straight out of the shower, while the skin is still damp. That is the moment the body lotion works best. Basil keeps the skin feeling fresh and awake; honey feeds it and helps it hold on to its moisture. It sinks in fast, with no greasy feel, and it comes in lavender for winding down or mint for waking up.

The oil: basil and coconut

  • Basil
  • Coconut

On the evenings your skin asks for more, the body oil. Coconut hydrates deeply and leaves a soft, pearly glow rather than a film. Use it alone, or layer it over the lotion to seal the moisture in. Slow hands, warm oil, shoulders and legs: most people feel the relaxation straight away.

On wash day

The shampoo: tea tree, caffeine, argan and jojoba

  • Tea tree
  • Argan
  • Jojoba
  • Vitamin E

Our keratin shampoo starts at the scalp. Tea tree purifies it and helps keep dandruff away, and caffeine stimulates the follicles to help reduce hair fall. Argan and jojoba oils, keratin protein and vitamins E and B5 then strengthen each strand and lock in moisture.

The mask: argan, jojoba, tea tree and vitamin E

  • Argan
  • Jojoba
  • Tea tree
  • Vitamin E

After shampooing, on damp hair, the hair mask gives deep moisture, helps reduce breakage and brings back shine and bounce. It is especially good for dry, frizzy or chemically treated hair.

The serum: rosemary, argan, jojoba and coconut

  • Rosemary
  • Argan
  • Jojoba
  • Coconut
  • Aloe vera

The finishing touch. The hair serum brings together coconut, argan, jojoba, aloe vera and vitamins E and A to tame frizz and flyaways, and rosemary to soothe the scalp and support healthy hair growth. A small amount in your palms, through the mid-lengths and ends, on damp or dry hair.

And the other ten percent?

We say "more than ninety percent" rather than one hundred on purpose. Some things a formula needs do not grow on a vine: a sunscreen has to protect you properly, and a lotion has to stay safe and pleasant from the first pump to the last. We would rather give you an honest number than a prettier one.

Natural is where we start. Safe is what we never compromise.

Natural only counts if it is safe

We only manufacture in places that hold the right licences and certificates. Our production is ISO certified, every raw material we use is licensed and certified, and our products are officially registered with, and approved by, the Ministry of Health. As we grew, production expanded from Egypt to Dubai, under the same standards. And our products are never tested on animals.

Everything is made to suit all skin types, sensitive skin included, and all hair types. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a specific concern, check with your doctor first, and message us on WhatsApp any time for help choosing.
